System takeovers & repairs

Control4 takeovers and repairs

Your original installer has gone quiet, the project file is missing, and something’s stopped working. We take on Control4 systems other people installed, get them working again, and look after them from then on.

When a takeover makes sense

Left without anyone to call?

Control4 systems are installed and programmed by dealers. When that dealer retires, closes, moves away or simply stops answering, the owner is left with a system nobody else can get into, and no one to call when something goes wrong.

We take those systems on. Sometimes it’s a house that’s been running well for years and just needs someone responsible for it. Sometimes it’s a half-finished install, or a new home with a system the previous owners left behind.

Either way we start the same way: find out exactly what’s there, recover what we can, and tell you plainly what condition it’s in before recommending anything.

Problems we see every week

  • Controller offline or the app won’t connect
  • Remote stopped responding or won’t pair
  • A room or source has disappeared from the system
  • Keypads and lighting scenes doing the wrong thing
  • Remote access expired or no longer working
  • Original installer gone: no project file, no passwords
  • Controller too old for the current OS
  • A device Control4 has no driver for
How a takeover works

From someone else’s install to a system you can rely on.

  1. 01

    Tell us about the house

Send us what you know: the property, roughly what is installed, who installed it, and what is not working as it should. A phone call is usually the quickest start.

  2. 02

    System review

We look at the controllers, project and network, remotely where access allows and on site where it doesn’t, and tell you plainly what condition the installation is in.

  3. 03

    Documented handover

We become the dealer responsible for your system, document it properly, and agree in plain English what needs doing first, next and later.

  4. 04

    Works and ongoing care

Repairs, upgrades and improvements are carried out, then looked after with service visits and remote support for as long as you need us.

Straight answers at every stage. If your system doesn’t need work, we’ll say so.

Repairs & diagnostics

Find the cause, then fix it

Controller offline, remotes not responding, a room that’s quietly dropped out, video that no longer switches. We find the actual cause instead of resetting everything and hoping.

Where we can get remote access, a lot of faults are diagnosed while you’re still on the phone. Where we can’t, we come out, find the problem, and replace whatever has failed: controllers, dimmers, keypads, remotes or network kit. You get a written explanation of what went wrong and why, not just an invoice.

How we handle a fault

  • Remote diagnosis through Composer where access allows
  • On-site fault finding and repair
  • Replacement of failed controllers, dimmers, keypads and remotes
  • A written explanation of what went wrong and why
At handover

Documented, so it never happens again

The reason most takeovers are painful is that nothing was written down. So every takeover we do ends with proper documentation: what’s fitted, how it’s programmed, and where the project lives.

After that, we can look after the system with scheduled health checks and remote support, or simply be the people you call when you need us.

What you get

  • A documented list of every controller, keypad, remote and device
  • A backed-up copy of the project, stored where it can’t be lost
  • Network details recorded: addresses, switches and Wi-Fi
  • Remote access set up so we can support you without a visit
  • A plain-English list of what needs doing first, next and later
FAQ

Common questions

Can you take over a Control4 system someone else installed?

Yes. Most of our Control4 work is exactly that. It doesn’t matter who put the system in or how long ago; we start with an audit, then take responsibility for it from there.

What if we don’t have the project file or the old dealer’s login?

That’s common. As registered Control4 dealers we can usually move the system across to us and recover what’s there. Where something can’t be recovered, we rebuild it and document it properly, so you’re never in that position again.

We’ve just bought a house with Control4 already in it. Can you help?

Yes. We’ll find out what’s installed, get it working the way you want, and set it up in your name rather than the previous owner’s.

Will you try to sell us a new system?

No. If a repair, a setting change or a reconfiguration fixes it, that’s what we’ll recommend. If something genuinely needs replacing, we’ll explain why and what it gets you.

Our controller is old. Does it need replacing?

Not always. Older controllers can’t run the newest Control4 software, which matters for app access and some newer devices. We’ll tell you honestly whether an upgrade is worth it for the way you use the house.

Which areas do you cover?

The New Forest, Hampshire and the surrounding counties for on-site work. Remote diagnosis and support work anywhere the system can be reached.

Inherited a Control4 system?

A phone call is usually the quickest start. If your system is down, call rather than email.
